HI, I have two 3 almost 4 week old ducks and on started showing signs of a niacin deficiency -
Symptoms are: laying down more than standing, struggles to walk , has a wide gate, stomps almost like her legs just can't carry her and now is choosing to lay next to the feed most of the time. When she goes to stand it takes her twice to get all the way up unless startled
We are on day 4 now, I have started two days ago with Nutritional Yeast at 2 tbs per cup of feed that carried only 28mg p lb of niacin and feel terrible that I didn't catch it. I have feed with 70mg on the way but for now, today I added in poultry cell at 1 oz in a gallon of water.

Past this I dont know if I am doing it right or wrong and would love some help!
we also have been doing swim time the past 4 days at 20 min each 3 times a day. Any advice would be appreciated.

Most of us have been there. Plenty of feeds don't even discolse Niacin content. Don't beat yourself up over it, its a mistake you won't make again. You are doing something about it now, which is what matters.

Keep up with the nutritional yeast. DO your math - niacin contents of various yeast vary. And out of curiosity, why are you working in mg per lb instead of mg per kg? Adult ducks *most breeds* are said to need about 55 mg/kg of niacin in their feed and will eat almost half a pound (1/4 kg +/-) per day. 55mg/kg is roughly 25 mg/lb.

Swim practice is good for joint development and supporting their wait w/o further stressing the joints.

Be sure the floor of your brooder isn't slick like a stock tank or a plastic tote. I use towels in mine - which the birds absolutely destroy - so they are dollar store towels - but it ensures there is something for my birds to get some grip on with their feet so they aren't struggling to both support and stabilizae at the same time.

After that, I got nothing. Oh, except I raise Pekins, so I target about 100 mg/kg initially.

Thank you. I was going by pound because that’s what I was told to do to ensure there was enough niacin for the ducklings and that’s what it’s in a on all of the bags in the ingredients I have two adult ducks who were on a different feed but never had this issue so I was stumped and just wanted to act quickly.

Brooder has bedding, and it was over two days that I noticed her starting to lay day down more and more. I was also told to do liquid b complex wich will be here tomorrow but can’t get a confirmation in dosage, nor if it’s the goat complex injectable given orally.
I just want to fix her. Also math is not my friend as it seems.
