I hatched 20 out of 23 eggs in an incubator in my classroom. The chicks are now 3 weeks old. I plan to only keep the females, but I’ll have to wait until they are older to tell them apart. I want to raise them to be friendly and not scared of me. What is the best way to hold and pet them?

Make sure they can see all of you, not just your hand. Just hold them. After an hour, mine are all as tame as can be. Mealworms are great too.

Freeze dried mealworms great taming/training tool, squish in your hands & patiently allow them to come to your hand. Also scoop don't grab them - scoop them from under; two fingers (middle & ring finger) under their chest between their legs use other fingers to control them. Found this works better than grabbing from above, like a predator. Spend time with them, some will be friendlier than others, we all have individual personalities.
