I bought them all from the feed store.. they were doing great.
Two things different yesterday..
I changed their box to a smaller one as that is what I had..and the lamp was lowered closer to the chicks.. they are perching on the metal wire under the bulb.

second I tore some newspaper in strips and put it in the box they had hay in before it looks like they chewed on it... just removed the two barred rock and rhode island red chicks from the box with it... she the orpington.. the only orp and the biggest chick looks like she is miserable.

Is there something that can maybe be a quick fix if she ate newspaper or was overheated?

Btw... I read this forum all the time since I moved to a rural living ranch a few yrs ago... my name is Patricia and this is my first time actually joining... I appreciate all of the input I have read from you all in the past few yrs... definitely a city girl turned country and I love the great and loving advice you give to each other..

I would say the older one is over heating this could be deadly for her. you said you put into smaller box and lowered the heat light. that makes it warmer and harder for her to get away from the heat she has more feathers. if you read older post you will hear sad storys of people losing there chicks do to over heating. I would get her cooled of asap. Hope this helps

I believe you were right on that one.... I think she was overheated... she had a water stool with a bit of white... then pure water and red jell intestinal lining.. scared the crap out of me... I took her out removed the lamp.. it was a warm day anyway... put her in a sink with enough cool water to cover her feet..... (she looked aweful... put her back in another box segragated... and ran to the vet supply store.

sulfa medication for water treatment... probiotic and vitamin water treatment.. one gallon of water and medicated feed. added some sugar.. not alot... just a bit.

treated the water and started giving her a syringe of water by mouth every hour... and a little change after the 3rd hour. was more alert.... she kept looking at her food and not eating... I put a little lettace in there and she ate it... gave her water solution.. came back an hour later to trade out her feed for the medicated feed and she was walking around and attacked the bowl like she was starving... today... playing with the rest of the chicks.. who were all given the medicated feed and water as well.

Thanks.... she was overheated and dehydrated I believe and could have just died without intervention

Deciding to give my new chicks I expect from the hatchery the same probiotic water and sulfa treatment and medicated feed when they get her may 21st just to insure they are and stay healthy... chicks are so active and healthy and full of life today... her included..

amazing what quick action will do.. my friend said to me... well she only cost you 3.00.. just go get another chick.... mouth wide open... as I said shut up.... these will be the most expensive and beloved eggs ever...lol
