3rd chick died today

I received my order from MPC on 3/24/2010. 1 was dead on arrival, 1 died on 3/26, and now one died this am. Neither of the 2 that died recently had any injuries, they ate well and were active. I have no idea why they would die.

Have you called MPC? I don't know what their policy is but they should do something.

Do you have any left? How's your brooder temp? What are you feeding/using for bedding? Maybe we can figure something out to help the other chicks...?

I'm so sorry! Usually once they are eating, drinking and active, you are out of the woods.

Do you want to tell us what they are eating, anything that you have in the water, what temperature they are at and what you are using in the bottom of the brooder? Sometimes it just happens, but it's good to double check their conditions. I remember one woman who had accidentally over-dosed the electrolytes she was giving them and started to lose chicks. Sometimes the litter is a problem. That kind of thing.

Hi..and thanks! We just buried the little guy.

My brooder is large, but has heat. 90 degrees directly under the light. I had paper towels over pine for a few days, just so the little chicks would know what to eat. I did take the paper towels off and it is just pine now. The little EE that died this am was running around the other day with a tiny piece of pine. It was red in color and long, thin strip. We tried to get it from her, it was like a game with all the rest of the chickens. She swallowed it. Do you think that is what could have happened? Their food is Purina medicated chick food. Water, is changed 3 times a day.

I do live in SWFlorida and we had terrible storms the other night. Maybe, the power went out when I was sleeping?...It goes out a lot in storms. I don't know, I guess I am just trying to find answers. This is really sad. None of the others looks sick, lethargic, or anything else. I do not even know what to look for. She was perfectly fine, then dead...
