I have 10 baby chicks. 2 cochin 4 wyandottes 2 mottled java and 2 Sussex. They are 3 wks old and it is 86 and sunny outside. Temp chart says 80-85 so I thought this is perfect for them to go outside for a little while maybe hour or two who knows. The chicks are like freaking out and trying to escape. Panting and huddling. I put a box in there small pen for shade in case they needed it and they've all ran for cover. I brought them in after 30 minutes of this. Reasons why? Did I do something wrong?

You changed their environment, everything looks different. It doesn't feel like home to them, they don't feel safe and they want to hide. Take them out for short periods every day that you can, they will slowly adjust and get used to it. I use a small animal carrier, take them out in it, prop the door open so they can go in and out, and give them time to adjust. They are still very young, they don't have a mama to help them feel safe, so it takes a bit of time. Chickens don't like change.
