Funny and, sadly, true story.

My first batch of baby chicks purchased 18 from a local feed store. A coworker friend came by and we talked about the chickens. He was trying to explain how to know if the chicks were roosters or hens. So as my chicks got bigger I was super bummed because almost all my chickens were roosters (or so I thought). I went looking for some hens and found a local person selling some hens that she used for show hens. When I saw her chickens I immediately asked, to be certain, if those were hens. She affirmed that they were and asked if something was wrong. I explained to her that I understood chickens with the ā€œdangly thingsā€ under the chin were roosters. We had a good laugh and she assured me that all chickens have the ā€œdangly thingiesā€. LOL

So when I talked to my friend again I realized he was taking about the comb (thingy on the head)!!!! I felt soooo dumb.
