I just put my pullets in a new run next to the older girls. They are just 2 days shy of 4 months old--three easter-eggers and a speckled sussex. Today I found a smallish blue-green egg in their run! I think it must be Cleopatra, who has a much more developed comb than the rest. I haven't noticed any pre-egg behavior such as squatting, nest-making etc..It is sooo strange! Should I continue to feed them starter/grower and just add a dish of oyster shell? I've got to make a nest for her--I am so unprepared--Is this just a test of the system, or will she continue to lay? This is like not having sanitary napkins ready....

Probably will continue to lay. Maybe miss a few days here and there at first but there's no reason for her to stop. EE's are great aren't they. Seem to pay their way better than most breeds. If they were mine, I'd just put them all on layer feed, as the whole bunch will not be too far from production.

My 2 laying EE lay by far the biggest eggs. I would swear they should be Double Yolkers everyone but so far not a single EE DYThe eggsare huge and make me wince when I think about them passing them. OUCH!

Just buy some layer feed and start mixing them together. More of the current feed at first, then gradually, more of the layer. Unless you start seeing a lot of malformed eggshells, don't worry about it.
