Ok I guess I have the bug because I am really bummed. My incubator started smelling so I candled the eggs and nothing was alive. I opened them up just to be sure. I hate doing that but I am just learning and really want to know what I did wrong. Here is what I found:

1/2 haved developed fully and there was no sign of blood a few had broke the membrane with their beaks and some hadn't, but they were still fully developed with no blood or yolk.

1/2 were still a little small and floating. I could see the yolk sack.

I am just really bummed and disappointed. I want to start again. Any suggestions?

I have a LG with fan and turner. I tried to keep it at 99.5 degrees but it fluctuated a little but never over 101. The humidity was 40-50 for the first 18 days and the then I tried to keep it at 60-70.
The four that hatched, hatched Sunday through Thursday. All were wet when they hatched except one but he had poked a big hole and then sat there for over 24 hours so I think he dried himself out. I helped out because he was stuck.

Thanks

im not sure what happened

It sounds like your temps and humidity was good.

I've had many a bad hatch and many a good hatch too in all my
bators, including my LGs.

Don't let this bug you. Just try and find out what happened and try
again.

From the limited info I read here my gut tells me the eggs were bad,
especially if you had an odor. I've found that one bad egg seems to
ruin a hatch. Another consideration would be to add a fan kit to the
LG. Forced air LGs work a lot better.

Give your 4 chicks a little kiss from Uncle PC.

Yes I have a fan. They were all shipped eggs, but I just found a lady who sells fertilized eggs nearby, not the ones I really want but I guess I could practice incubating while I save up to buy some more expensive eggs.

I did have a bad egg in there that I didn't know about. It exploded when I opened it. Luckily it didn't get all over. Scared the crap out of me though.

The four that hatched hatched 2 on day 20 and two on day 21. I had two batches that I set two days apart. So today was day 24 and 26 for the ones I opened.

Thanks for reassurance.

Keep trying. The thing about the LGs is they take a while to master but
in the process you learn how to be a master hatcher.

I've hatched my own eggs and gotten them locally too. It makes a BIG
difference.

The other thing is make sure your thermo is correct. One degree off
or having it on the base of the bator, not top of the egg level, can throw
things a bit too.

Lot's of us here have gone through exactly what you have and we are all
here to share our experience.

Happy Hatching!!!
