So, my ducklings are just a little over 2 weeks now and they are growing fast! I obviously want to keep them as safe and happy as I can so the question is....I am wondering if it will be o.k. to put them in my shed with a heat lamp on them? I have a large house for them inside the shed and they will be kept contained inside for now because we are in VT and the temps are still chilly!!! I will bring them in for bath times every day because they LOVE baths

if we have a warm day I will allow them to play outside with me for a bit too! Let me know if this sounds good please! I do not want to hurt my babies! Thanks so much everybody. I will have to take more pics. so you can see them now.

If the building is well predator proofed i see no reason not too. Now slightly different as mine have had mama, but they've been in the mini duck barn since the get go. That was through the chilly Mar and the not so great april so far. I have had a heat lamp, even with there mama there.

Do you have a thermometer? if not i'd get one so you know where exactly you stand. GL! and pictures will be fun, we love seeing babies here.

Thanks for your input! It's nice to get other opinions

It makes me feel better about making the transition. Like I said b4 I am so afraid of messing up and having a tragedy. I love these little stinkers! They have the best personalities. I feel like they love me too! The way they look at me with those eyes...they are just so darn cute! I cant wait to see how beautiful they are as they grow.
-Thanks again

It's nerve wracking at the start, heck even if you've done it before, the first new ones i always get a bit, whew.. but if they have good shelter, warmth and predator protection there is no reason for them to be inside.

I prefer raising them in the coops/barns, you have better access to clean, and also it gets them used to where they will be. The only reason my first ever ducks were raised in the house was because we got the ducks before the coop... in other words the cart before the horse lol but in our defense the weather went awful, so we got delayed a lot. All further ducks either bought or hatched here have started in the barn, way easier.. plus for outside time they learn to herd back into the home.

GQ speaks for me, too. A thermometer gives you some very good information. And I would not put ducklings and thermometer out for the first time together. Set the thermometer in exactly the place you'll have the ducks, with whatever heat source you intend to use, and check it. I like min-max thermometers because they record maximum and minimum temperatures for a time period. Then you don't have to be up all night checking the temperatures, and you'll know whether you want the ducklings out there based on real information.
