Hello everyone,

I have 7 chicks in a brooder right now that are about 4 weeks old. I have two bantams, and one of them looks like she may have some sort of respiratory issue. She sneezes a lot (every few seconds, doesn't sneeze when she's sleeping though). She also looks like she is breathing kind of heavy, the underside of her beak moves when she is breathing and I haven't noticed that with any of my other chicks. Does anyone know if there is anything I can check or do to help her out? She seems very healthy otherwise. Thanks!

First things first, separate her out from the others. You don't want them catching whatever illness she has. Does she have any other symptoms? Runny nose or lethargy? How do her poops look? Have they ever been outside before? Keep her warm and separated, try getting her medicated chick feed, and add some electrolytes to the water. Can you post a video of her breathing and sneezing?

Hi there, thanks for the response. I don’t see a runny nose, she used to run around constantly but has slowed down a bit, but I’m not sure if that is due to growing up a little. Her poops look normal as far as I have noticed. She has never been outside and they are currently eating medicated chick feed. We gave them electrolytes in their water (plus separate fresh water) for about the first two weeks.

here is a link to a video I just took of her, she stopped sneezing as much when I picked her up so it could just be dust, but I did get one in the video. I’m not sure if the way she is breathing is normal or not.

We use Oxine 1.2% solution in a vaporizer to treat birds with respiratory issues. We've saved a couple that way. As the previous advice said, separate her. She may infect others.

I must say, that is the cutest chick sneeze I've ever heard. It's possible it coming from dust or other irritants like you said, so I would actually clean the whole brooder out to see if that fixes the problem.
