4 week old Lavender Cuckoo and Lavender Pekin chicks - sexing

I have 6 4 week old chicks which are gorgeous. I now want to sex them and am not sure how too? Can anyone help? I understand that the males get red crests quicker - Is that right? Is there any market for selling the males?? Also what is the difference between the two breeds?

I understand that the males get red crests quicker - Is that right? Yes, at 4 weeks red comb and wattles development almost always indicates cockerels. I see 3, maybe 4, there.


Is there any market for selling the males?? Also what is the difference between the two breeds?

In this pic, the two on the far left are probably pullets, but I'd give it another few weeks to confirm. The four with red combs at this young age are definite males.

I agree with donrae. Females usually have smaller combs!
