A poop question: We have three black laced silver Wyandottes pullets, 4 weeks old. They're very active and seem fine, eating and drinking well; Purina medicated chick feed, and chick boost (probiotic and vitamins) in their water. They love scratching and pecking at their bedding, and they're eating some of that. The bedding is premium flax animal bedding

One of them is frequently having very watery poops with little lumps in them. They're very discrete little ladies, don't like pooping while I watch, so I'm not 100% sure it's all from her. She's the smallest, and has always been smaller than the others, but she is growing steadily.

In the past I've always started with older ones, 18 to 22 weeks old, so I'm not familiar with how the young'uns should be. Is this normal? Is it something to be concerned about? And if so, how should I treat her.

Another possibility- we have well water and a softener system, so it could have a good bit of salt in it. This evening I switched, I'll give them bottled water and see if that helps.

It's been two more weeks, they are six weeks old now, no change. Two of them are fine, the third girl is frequently having very watery poops. She's very bright and active, perhaps the most assertive and curious of the three, but still lags behind in size. Growing steadily, but she's always been smaller and lighter than the others. They're getting Purina medicated chick crumbles and fresh water. I switched from our well water (good softener system, but that puts salt in it) to highly filtered water. About half the time it's pure, the other half I put a small amount of chick probiotic & vitamin in it. They are eating some of the bedding and corners they tear off from corrugated cardboard. The bedding is premium flax animal bedding. I have a small amount of chick grit available to them, they only peck at it very occasionally. Any suggestions?

That's just weird as heck.
Like she's not digesting the food....going right thru barely even dissolved.
Sorry have no ideas.

Is she eating her bedding? If she is and you don't have chick grit she will not be able to digest it and she will fill up on that instead of her pellets which could cause her not to get the nutrition she needs, could also cause digestive problems and crop problems. Your bedding material looks small. You should never use fine bedding material with chicks. Try laying an old sheet over it for a while so she can't eat it. Then see if their is a difference in her poo.
