my 4 week old dominique is so weak that he cannot stand. He is trembling, huddled down on the ground acting like he can't hold his head up. He was fine this morning. But just now, my husband found him in that position with the others trampling over him. The roosting bar had fallen down but there doesn't seem to be any obvious injury. I seperated him, but now what?

Sorry your little rooster is sick. It's really difficult to tell what's going on. Is the roost heavy enough that if it fell and hit his head or neck that it could have given him a concussion (or the equivalent of what we call a concussion)??? I would try a little bit of sugar water...electrolites if you keep any of that around. And see if you can get him to eat a little scrambled egg. If you can get him to eat/drink his chances will be much better. Keep him separated until then, so you can also see if he's pooping.

If it were my little roo, I'd bring him in the house overnight.
If he was even slightly injured when the roost fell, the other chickens might have picked on him. After being possibly injured, picked on, and trampled, it's no wonder he's having a hard time.
Just keep him comfortable inside overnight & re-assess him in the morning. I'd just let him rest & recover if there are no obvious injuries.
Good luck.
Oh, yeah, and get that roost attached securely!

Actually they are still in our brooder. It's not actually a roosting bar, just a 1" thick branch that fits in the brooder. It's only about 3 inches of the floor of the brooder so it wouldn't make sense that he would have gotten hurt on that. We fed him sugar water and a little yogurt. Our 10 year old son has been holding him in a towel to keep him warm. He seems a little better but has snuggled back down in the towel with his eyes closed. Not trembling now. Oh, he didn't like the scrambled egg so the rest of the chicks got them. We have 21 4 week old chicks... I really appreciate your advice!
