I had them on the waterfowl starter but it's like 27% protein. Sooo at week 3 in an attempt to cut back protein- the feed store guy insisted chick starter. I wanted pellets but he said at 3 weeks old my ducklings would choke? Will they? They do not carry waterfowl grower. But they carry waterfowl something and it's pellets. I can't recall the name- it's the food that comes after grower I think?

I really do NOT fancy mixing up all this niacin since they are eating starter. I just don't feel like this is the best food for them.

Should I put them back on the waterfowl starter and cut with oats- can I skip the niacin supplements? Or can they indeed be on pellets?

Since I have a ginormous bag of the chick starter- could I cut it with the waterfowl starter to use it up? I hate to waste all that food.

And chicken grit- I got a bag. Dang it looks like gravel. I thought it would be fine like sand but no it's more like small rocks. Are my 4 week old ducklings going to choke on it?

I put some in a bowl all by itself and it's next to their feed. Is that what most of you do?

Thanks!

Personally I would mic the tow bags if thats what you have, once gone go with Flock Raiser. As for Grit I use yard dirt/sand considering thats where they will be open ranging and what they will have access to. I start my ducks and chicks on sand dirt/sand within the 1st week. Just think about what mammo duck would be doing. She wouldn't be buying grit, she would be haivng baby forage and baby would be eating the yard dirt as grit.
And no I wouldnt go with pellets yet, I would stick with crumble for now.
