Question - someone on craigslist is selling 5/8" 4 x 8 plywood - 50 sheets/$150. Sounds like a good deal to me. Would this be good to build my coop with? Also, would this be good for going under my roof shingles. I know very little about building and am going to hire or barter for someone to build this for me. Thanks!

Took the bf for a walk behind the garage to map out the coop today - to show him everything "we" need to clear. Glad to have help.

You should find out if it's interior or exterior grade plywood. (if the ad doesn't SAY exterior, it probably isn't)

If it is exterior grade, by all means if you have the cash and the stuff is in good shape then DO IT, that's a real good price, and send me some too LOL

If it is exterior grade but in lousy shape, it's a judgement call depending on how much of it is in how lousy shape.

If it is interior grade, then I would be cautious using too much of it for the coop unless you live in a dry climate and the coop will be in a sheltered enough location, and/or have a jinormous enough roof overhang, that not much weather will get to the walls. You can get away with interior ply for the interior walls (if you are insulating -- otherwise there will not BE interior walls!) but I would try awfully hard to use EXTERIOR stuff for siding, floor and roof deck. The difference is in the glue that glues all the paper-thin plies together. Interior grade plywood uses glue that pretty quickly comes apart when damp.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
