5 coturnix Hatched Today!!!

Mine start eating as soon as they go to the brooder. Make sure you have them on 'solid' flooring, like towels of some sort. Sprinkle the food on the floor so it 'moves' when they walk on it, though honestly coturnix chicks are usually pretty good about finding what they are supposed to eat. The foot thing should pass, I usually 'thump' the offender and they get the point

the foot thing has stopped and they are eating now. They are such little pigs.

They are already scratching in the feeder as well. It's amazing how soon they learn to spill food.

i have them on corn cob bedding to start out and have the feeder on a piece of notbook paper. They figured the food out pretty quickly.

It's like a 4"x"4 peice of notbook paper to catch the food that spills. The rest of their cage is corncob bedding as mentioned above. They seem to be able to scratch around fine and walk across the paper okay.

I'm not using it as bedding just as a tray to catch the food that spills and as a way to help them learn to eat.

I'm well aware of the srattle leg issue and never use anything, but a good corncob bedding or a really fluffy pine bedding for my babies. I also know to avoid using wire floors fore quail as well.

You guys should read better before you start to lecture.

Hey hey, there is nothing wrong with wire floors if you have an area where the birds can dust bathe and rest their legs

Didn't mean to lecture

Wire floors are fine for adults, but I never use them for chicks. It causes too many foot problems.

Mine are spoiled Aviary birds anyway remember?
