I totally agree I just read this and thought it sounded inaccurate so I was just checking.

Sadly not, for meat production, some people pack them so tightly they can barely move.

I agree with what everyone is saying 1 sq per bird min. If you watch some of the youtube quail farming video's you will see large production places that cram 4 to 5 in a foot of space. I build my pens with 3 per square thought but once I started putting them in I haven't hit the 1 per square yet because it seems cruel.

I have a 2ft x 2ft rabbit cage that I keep my first group of quail in and I have 4 females and 1 male in there. Any more than that and I would think they would be totally stressed. Hope this helps....
