Hi I have a 5 day old chick with swelling along the top of her right wing.. I found her like that this morning as she is being raised with her momma chicken. The chick is eating and drinking but does seem withdrawn. She is chirping for her mates as I have her with me. The wing just hangs . I cannot find any bites or blood. There is no high spots in there pen as they are silkies and roost in boxes on the floor. I have had field mice lately. The chick is also wet on the top of her head I do not know if this has anything to do with her injury all other chicks are dry. Is the swelling congealed blood? Will the swelling go down after time? Any advice would be appreciated as these are my first chicks and my pets. Thanks

I placed the chick with her mother thinking she will be protected. Now she has blood under her wing. The swelling has not gone down at all.. The wing is still hanging. I have cemented all aroung the coop to stop any more mice from invading. Can I wrap the wing with something so she can be with her mum as she just chirps and chirps she will only stress herself out.

I am hoping omeone on byc knows what to do in my situation as I have never culled anything before. I dont want this chick to be in pain or stressed enough to die slowly. The swelling has not eased he is still eating and drinking but the wing is still down. If I keep the wrap on will the other chicks pick on him meaning peck at her. I still cant figure out how this has even happened to my chick.

I'm sorry you haven't gotten any answers.

Have you treated the open wound? If the other chicks see it, they'll start pecking until they kill it.

The swollen area, what does it feel like? Could it be an air sac? How is the chick acting? Eating and pooping ok? Can you bring one of the calmer chicks in with it so it's not lonely? Or hang a feather duster in it's brooder so it can think it's Mom.

Thank you for answering. The swollen area appears hard. I think one of her siblings have had a peck at it. Thanks I will try the feather duster trick as she frets something awful when I take her away from mum. She is eating drinking running and pooing fine. Just the swelling and the drooping wing.
