I have adult rooster and 17 hens, kept one roo along with 2 pullets and they are 5 months old, the roo is at purberty and is a really aggressive breeder. He is nice about food and gets all the girls in the coop at night, and is OK with me and fine with other rooster. But he is beating the girls up ! They are all afraid of him and try to avoid him, 4 have bare backs now from his aggressive breeding methods. And he only started breeding about 2 weeks ago.
How long do I give him to see if his breeding style improves, I remember the other roo being a bit rough initially but no one went bald from him.
I have about 20 younger pullets coming up which is why I kept him but maybe I need to cull him and select a roo to keep once all those pullets are mature . Thoughts? Are you just best off keeping only one roo even with a large( 20 +) hen flock ?
