I have a batch of 25 DP (and a few hybrid) chicks that are almost 5 weeks old. I am looking for one replacement rooster and unfortunately now a few replacement hens due to serious predator action lately. The rest I will be eating but had intended to eat them all, but for the 1 replacement rooster.
My question is this: does anyone have a ballpark idea of how much 25 DP 5 week old chicks should be eating per day? They get/always have gotten 22% feed that I mix daily and soak in water overnight. They have been getting about 3 lbs per day (dry weight) since they were about 4 weeks old (although a lot had been scattered everywhere).
Now it looks like they definitely want more than 3 lbs a day. Could this be true? Its fine if it is, I just don't remember such young chicks eating this much- 28 of my adult hens only eat 7+ lbs of feed per day. Note* I may only notice the daily feed intake amounts bc I am mixing the feed daily- I used to always just mix a 5 gallon bucket of chick feed and ferment it... So I just dished out as needed and never knew how much they were eating on a daily basis.
Thanks for any info-
