Hi!

My chicks are 5 weeks old and are still inside in a spare bedroom that maintains around 70+ at all time. I have been reading that 5 week old chicks do/ do not need heat. It sounds more like they need additional heat until 6 weeks of age. Is this true even if they are inside in a warm house?

They seem to be sleeping in separate group bundles but not crowded and they get up to eat and drink. It will be their first night without additional heat so I want to confirm they will be okay.

Thank you!!

They should be fine I let mine run out at 4 weeks with their mama hen

Below is the chart which is a guideline. All chicks are different, even each batch of mine which are all the same breed. Some are staying away from the heat their 2nd week and on the complete other side of the brooder where there is nothing. Ones I have right now are 3 weeks old and still directly under the heat.

I'd just unplug it and see how they do in an hour. If they're all crying, then you'll know. My guess is they'll be fine.

The house / room is currently at 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Is there a chance they could freeze overnight? I guess will they be okay for one night? Thank you for providing this information and for the help!

Like I mentioned, they'd be crying if they were that cold. Huddling up is probably what they'll do.
