Hello! I have a few 5 week old chicks that I need to know if they are cockerels or pullets, because I will need to find a new home for them if they're cockerels :hit I wish I could keep them all, but unfortunately I live in an urburn setting that won't allow that :( also, I have one mystery chick that I don't know the breed of
Chick #1: rose comb Dominique
700

Chick #2: light brahma

Chick #3: mystery chick (looks like s/he has a rose comb)
700

Chick #4: some kind of bantam, I think it's a self blue OEG
700

Chick#5: same kind of bantam as before, pretty sure he's a cockerel
700

Chick #6: dark brahma
700

Chick #7: preduction red I think
700

To young to say for sure but #1, #3, #4, and #5 look suspicious. Also the Dark Brahma is a definite pullet since you can sex them by color.

Darn! Old wives tales ways of sexing don't work reliably apparently :'( looks like I will be finding some of them a new home pretty soon.

What have you used for sexing? Which old wives tales?

I used the one that said if you flip them on their back, pullets will keep their legs drawn up to their chest but cockerels will stretch their legs out.
