My five year old Black sex link hen has been acting strange the past two days. She has been completely fluffed up, her comb and wattles are pale, she is less active than usual, and has been avoiding her flock mates. She also has been eating and drinking less than normal. It has been really hot here, could the heat be affecting her? I have separated her from her flock and moved her to the garage so that her flock mates can’t get to her.

Is she egg bound? That would be my first thought though if her comb is pale she may not be. Unless htere was an injury it sounds like she is sick. Others will probably have better advice however I would try to tempt her to drink some water with raw egg/sugar in it.

I don’t think she is egg bound, she hasn’t been squatting or straining at all, she has just been fluffed up and super irritable the past two days. She has kind of been acting like a broody hen, but she’s never in the nesting box

Does everything feel normal? Is her crop swollen or her abdomen?

Yeah, her crop and abdomen feel normal though she does have poop stuck on her butt fluff, which I just noticed. Oh and she is panting and feels hotter than normal
