Im at my wits end.

One of my girls keeps going broody. Its the fifth time this year. Shes a dark cornish, usually an excellent layer and just over a year old.
I dont have (nor do I want) a roo so her efforts are wasted. Unfortunatly getting her a chick (or some firtile eggs) isnt an option as my coops at maximum capasity. I take the eggs out reguarly during the day - I have six girls in total, nicely and reguarly kick her out of the egg box, but each time Ive had to put her in a broody coop until shes out of it.
The broody coop works wonders, but a few weeks later shes broody again.
I dont realy mind the lack of eggs from her, but shes not a happy chook when she broody, its not pleasant for her.
Hubby says to cull her, but Id like to know if anyone of you has had success breaking a habitual broody.
Thanks in advance!

She'd be a treasure for the right flock. Rather than cull, why not find her a flock where her broodiness is an attribute? Some hens just have an overwhelming desire to become mothers. She sounds like one of them.

Wow, now why didnt i think of that! Thanks!
Is there anyone in my area who could give her a good home? Im in Bradenton Florida.
Shes a real sweetheart, young and lays realy well.....

I believe that there is a Fla. state thread. Why not mention about her there? Hopefully she can fulfill her dreams.

I'd suggest listing her for sale in the farm & garden section of Craigslist. Mention she goes broody and would love to hatch eggs. Ask at least $5 for her to prevent people who just want a "free meal." You could easily get $15-20 for her, use it toward feed for the other birds.

If you were culling to eat her I could understand, but just to get rid of her....seems much better to find her a new home.

Best of luck!
