6.5 week old splash marans - help?

I don’t think tail feathers are a good indicator at that age but I’m not sure. That’s just what I’ve heard. I’m sure someone else will be able to help more than I can lol

I agree, just because they were the same type and birthdate was wondering if the difference would offer any insight! I don’t mind roos, but would like one maran type female for their gorgeous eggs 💛

Yes for sure!!! I have a BCM pullet and I cannot wait until she starts laying!

These birds are not likely to have male specific feathering due to their age. They are at an age where males are likely to get red on the comb and start to develop wattles. At this age most females remain pale.

Thank you! Because they had such differing feathering I wasn’t sure! Both have pink combs and wattled but ones are WAY larger

I have splash isbars and black copper marans and have done lots of roo vs pullet analyzing with them this spring lol. Based on just the tail feathers the one in the back looks possibly roo-like to me but no indication on the one in the foreground but it’s early to tell and especially just going off tail feathers. For me at that age my ones that turned out to be roos were developing little red wattles more so than the pullets.
