Hi everyone! I’m just wondering if I have a chicken not laying or it’s just the cycle of the chickens. My girls are 22 weeks old and everyday I’m getting six eggs. It’s wonderful and I am very grateful but I have seven chickens. What do you guys think? Is one girl not laying or is it just that each day one of the seven is having a day off (I hope that make sense)? I haven’t heard any crowing and no one appears to be a rooster. What do you guys think?
Thank you 🙏🏻

You can check by looking at each one's vent.
A laying hen will have a vent that can stretch enough to let an egg come out. It looks somewhat moist and stretchy, and is larger than the vent of a chick, a rooster, or a non-laying hen.

The difference is usually pretty obvious, so just start picking up chickens and looking at their vents. If they all look about the same, then all are laying. But if one vent looks small and puckered and dry, then that bird is not laying.

I think you probably have 7 layers and they are rotating their days off, but there is a chance that 6 are laying really well and the 7th hasn't started yet.

What breed(s) do you have. We have 8 chickens and have never gotten 8 eggs in a day. Not all breeds lay daily, as their egg making cycle can be longer than 24 hours.
I have 3 chickens and generally I get 3 eggs per day. Well, sometimes someone takes a day off but I get 20 or 21 eggs per week, once in a while 19 per week.
