I noticed my hen hopping around in the coop and not baring much weight on her left leg. She eats and drinks but mostly lays on the ground. This has been gong on for 2 days. I am bringing her inside today. There is no injury noted to her leg and she does bare some weight but it is noticeably hurtful when she does. Vet is not an option what can I do other than confinment food and water?

Have you checked the bottom of her foot or perhaps the top of the leg?
What bedding are they on? Could it be possible as small fragment of a wood shaving has lodged itself in the base of her foot?

I hope she is ok xx

Yes we check her foot the first day we notice the hopping...there is a hard scab type place under her toe..it seams attached and is not presnt on the other foot. I have watched it but there had been no change, puss, blood nothing just a hard scab that does not want to come out. Thought it might of been a spenter from the nesting boxes but I don't think so. There is no obvious injury that I can find. I have fine pine flakes from tractor supply in the coop and nesting boxes. There seamsxto be no pain when I touch or move the leg around through ROM...

is she showing any other signs of illness? Eating, drinking ok?

could she have knocked herself coming down from roosting?

Mine jump about all day and I'm conscious of injury because of that. Maybe being isolated and able to rest, will sort her leg 🤞

They will not roost on the roost they prefer to make a pileup on the ground also the one who is laying lays everywhere but the nesting tub (i have fake eggs in it to help). Its been 2 days and she dosn't seam better so bringing her inside today small confind area to help rest. She seams to be eating and drinking...will no more when I get her inside and can watch her better.

Fingers crossed she is ok and to me, it sounds like the pile up could have lead to the damage. A night under observation and rest should give you more clues.

So my hen absolutely wont stand. Lays on her tummy or side. She is eating and drinking. I have started b12 in her food and save a chick in her water. I have her housed separately. Could this be Mareks? They did get shots at the hatchery and I bought her at age 3. 5 mo. All others are doing fine.

@Wyorp Rock no signs of pecks to head. A couple days before her limping started she was roosting on the wooden nesting box..maybe a splinter in the foot. After some internet searching I beleive it to be Bumblefoot. Looking at photos of other affected feet hers looks alot like the ones I saw. Black crusty looking spot under toes on sore foot. I might have waited too long but tomorrow if she is still alive I am gonna:soak it in epesonsalt and warm water and try and remove it and doctor it up. If that doesn't work I may have to euthanize...I cant stand to see her helpless. She is separate from the others. Praying for the best.

Can you go get her and take some photos of her foot?

You mention here in your last post that you wonder if she'll make it, but previous posts indicate she is eating/drinking. Has she declined that much in the last few hours?

While Bumblefoot can cause limping and in severe cases a bird may tend to want to lay down, it's generally not something that they will die from in less than week unless there is serious infection.
