I have 7 full grown hens and I just got 4 new baby chicks who are 6 weeks old, Daisy my chick who is a white plymouth has been slouched over and her feathers are puffed out and she has been sleeping all day! Not eating or drinking I even offered treats. I checked her crop and thats fine and empty. She is standing up and sleeping and her feathers are puffed out but she is still chirping a lot. Is she maybe stressed because I just moved her from where she was at for 6 weeks to my home? The other 3 chicks are as happy as can be I gave them millworms earlier and they were fighting each other for them it was cute. Please help I dont like loosing my animals and I Love my chickens like I love my dogs!

Sounds like it could be coccidiosis. I treat mine with Corid (treats more strains of it than Sulmet). It is in the cattle section of the feed store.

(If you treat, treat all the chicks as they will have been nibbling on the poo of the sick one.)

I give 9.5 ml per gallon Corid in drinking water for 5 days and have had excellent results.

Coccidiosis is VERY fast to kill and they can die within 24 hours. You would do best to start treatment right away.

Same thing happened to my 2 month old chicks took all 13 healthy perky babies in 2 days:barnie i would get the others treated asap or they will die..im not sure if u can treat it i wish i could have saved mine ...tear tear

feathers fluffed up
acts cold
not eating or drinking
age usually under 8 weeks or so unless immunocompromised as an adult
may or may not have bloody poo
may or may not have been placed on dirt
stands in corner by herself

This is the typical picture of coccidiosis. It can do its damage even silently in the other members of the flock, damaging the intestines. It affects future health and potential. They are in pain when their intestines are being damaged.

They can recover sometimes without medication but it does damage them, and many times they die. So you can even have a silent problem until they get immunity. So when one of the members of the flock shows signs, I treat right away.

So I can just go to a tack and feed store and buy some corid??? I dont want her to die or my other 3 this is so sad! I hope its not coccidiosis could it be anything else though like stress? She was fine yesterday.

My feed stores carry Corid in the cattle section (some stores only have Corid Powder which is fine but different dosage than the liquid obviously). Sulmet is in the poultry section.
