We decided to hold off, couldn't find enough 'meat' on her.... and I didn't want to hurt her worse. We'll re-evaluate as necessary. BUT she's eating. Yay! Here's a couple pics.
Also, DH got Tri-Vi-Sol (has iron), is that ok, or should I return it?
Long story short, she started downhill again, had to go on a mission to get correct needle size. Ugh. Why do they make it so difficult?
Anyway, also got her a buddy, and they seem to be getting along fine. I'm going to limit their time together, I know Dylan still needs to rest and coup, and the little one is much more active. But there has been no pecking or meanness, which was the case with her 'original buddies'.
So, she's had her first penicillin shot, ended up SQ, as I was afraid to go too deep, but I figure better safe than sorry. And she did perk up with a new buddy.
Thanks for all the help, any other advice......I'll take it.
Here is Dylan with her new little buddy, and you can see the damage to her eye, or lack of eye.
I've always read not to give them iron. Procaine penicillin (if that is what your label says) is only supposed to be given into muscle since it is very irritating and painful. I would stop the shots if she doesn't have enough muscle. Other antibiotics can be given sub-Q but not that one. I'm glad she has a buddy and hope she continues to get better.
