6 Week Old Hen Looks Like A Big Ball

Thank you so much. If it shouldn't hurt them to treat for Cocci then we will give that a shot. Hopefully the others will remain healthy.

I had a 4 week old that did this. Thought she had something stuck in her crop. So I fed her some white bread with olive oil on it, some tomato's and cucumbers [acidic] she was better a couple of days later. You could check to see if her crop feels full in the morning. Just a wild guess here???

What is your chick's diet? What kind of feed, and is it medicated? Does she free range? Smell the feed, does it smell fresh? Any chance she has been into any compost, fungus, rotted vegetation, standing water, etc?

I would also feed her some probiotics; yogurt, plain unflavored, about a tsp per day for a week; and PolyViSol (childrens vitamins) a couple drops a day. Put ACV (organic apple cider vinegar, with the "mother" in it) in drinking water; 1 - 2 tsp per gallon.

Good luck!

Our chicks are out in the yard for a few hours a day. They are also eating the medicated feed. I tried the bread and olive oil, but none of them seemed to care for it. I put my father-in-law in charge of getting corid today. We'll see how things pan out.

Thanks again everyone!
