I turned off the heat lamp a couple of days ago (heat lamp is a red one) and now my 6 week old chicks all roost on the ramp going in to the coop. I go out about 10 p.m. and check on them and If I turn on the light in the coop they all wake up and come inside and start eating. there's a security light outside so the run stays light all night. is it normal for them to not want to sleep in the dark? should I just leave the light inside the coop on all night until they roost in the coop every night and then start tuning it off?

I'm no expert, as this is my first adventure into chickens, but I put mine into the coop every night. I carried them in, one or two at a time, and locked them in at night. Now they are 11 weeks, and are putting themselves to bed in the coop.
