Hi, my 6 wk old australorp pullet who is still in my brooder with 15 others of the same age and mixed types got bumped into when there was some excitement in the brooder as I was changing the water. She started fluttering and was holding her neck at a strange angle. I picked her up to examine her and she does not want to walk. I've put her in a clear plastic tote with some shavings for observation and to see if she gets better without being trampled/pecked after her injury. I will give her food and water soon, right now I'm leaving her alone for the most part. Any ideas? I told my almost-9-yr-old daughter she might not make it...

Thank you in advance- Patty

Thank you for the bump... our little girl is looking a bit upset but she is calm when I hold her... her neck is bent almost to where she is looking at the floor.. I guess it will either sort itself out or it won't... even if she survives with a wonky neck I'd be glad. My daughter has named her after one of her tweenybopper singer/actress idols, LOL!

I would give some vitamins a try. PloyViSol is the old brand name for people baby vitamins -- can get from a drugstore; don't get the kind with iron. Feed stores often have vitamins too. Here they are available in a generic but not the brand name. Pharmacist can help.

You could try a search on wry neck or torticollis or twisted neck.

Thank you, Dawn. I do have vitamin E capsules and will look for the vitamins after I get my kids off to school. I put her in with the others last night but took her out this am as they were stepping on her. She is still just the same and I will make sure she gets some water and then food in a bit... Any more ideas, folks?
