Good morning! One my my EE babies seems to be an early developer. He started crowing at 4 weeks roughly and seems to be mean to the other chick's housed with him of the same age. Does early crowing give an indication of a mean rooster? I am thinking about separating him from the others at least temporarily but he isbso young I'm not sure how that effect him .. idk if I am going to give him away or keep him til I can process him.. any thoughts or experience?

Is he just chest bumping and giving a little chase then stopping or is he actively attacking the others, pecking and pulling feathers? Young roosters often jump, chest bump and do a quick chase which is normal, but if they are pecking, pulling feathers and relentlessly attacking others then you should separate.

Early crowing doesn't equal a mean male. It can, especially if they start getting floods of testosterone, but not always.

I have had several males crow early and some are around years later.

We got a Cockerel with our first EE flock we got. He was always ahead. Especially his feet! He always was in charge of the flock even at a younger age. So much so that we named him 'Wise One'. Now that he's almost a real rooster... I question the name 'Wise' but that's only when he tries me. Our first real revelation was his crowing. Then probably 3 weeks later his saddle feathers and tail started changing.

That’s early!
My 17 week old hen just became a rooster last week!
