For now my laying hens free range. They do go into the old barn at night and roost out of harms way of preditors. The meat birds are in 8' x 8' x 2' pens made by 1" × 1" lumber. I wrap the pens with chicken wire. Spent less than $100 to build. Light weight pull the birds to new grass everyday. The chickens love new grass everyday, no bedding just improved pasture as the chickens fertilize a new spot everyday.
