Hi team!

I've heard an odd sound in the morning, between 7-7.30am. It doesn't sound like full rooster, but I'm worried now that one or both of my wyandottes could be roosters... or can they just voice their impatience for the coop door to open at 7.30? Like a long stretched cry.
They are 6 months now. I had one rooster who started crowing at under 3 months old...

That's a relief! Because I saw it was one of them, either Eggroll or Omelett omitting that sound.
The brown one is my choc Orpington and she's a sweetheart.
The australorp was a question mark for a while, as she was younger lots of people said she could be a roo.

I only see gorgeous pullets. You have a beautiful little flock.
Over my 7+ years of keeping chickens, I've had three hens crow. They have terrible crows compared to roosters. And the thinking that a hen will "take the role" of a rooster and crow in his absence is not true. I've always had at least one rooster in the flock. The oldest crowing hen I have does it during the summer mostly. Ironically, she's never been fertile. The rooster has never bred her but they do like each other and hang out together sometimes. The other 2 hens only did it when they were raising chicks. I've never heard them crow since.

Thanks for confirming! Still waiting for my first eggs to come along!
Omelet might have really just gotten impatient about the door opening. There was no Melody attempt to that sound...
Before these chickens I had quails for years and came across a lot of wonky crows, some never learnt a good tune!

Wow those birds are gorgeous. They don’t make them quite like that in the US haha. They’re all pullets. As others have said females can crow when no males are around. In my case, my hen’s voice was terrible and was the most dominant one.
