Hello everybody!
I am sad to say I need to re-home my flock due to divorce. I never would have taken on these lovely ladies if I thought my situation wasn't permanent, but I guess that's life? I inherited them 2 years ago from a friend moving out of state.
They are 7 hens, ranging in age from 3-8 (only one is 8, she still lays occasionally and has quite the personality!). I get approximately a dozen eggs/week of different colors! I have one blue egg layer, one white, and the others are different shades of brown. I'm not sure of all the breeds, but I know I have a leghorn, barred rock, auracauna (I think), and red sex link. They LOVE their black oil sunflower seeds and yogurt with blueberries, and spend their summers in the shade by their "pool". They are really great chickens, and will be your friend if you give them seeds!
If you'd like them you can take the chickens and everything we have. I'd like to see that they have enough room before I give them away. The coop I use is open since there is no danger of predators where I am. They all like to lay in the same box!
I should mention that I think they have scaly leg mites. One had it when she came to me, but I didn't know what it is. Now that I do, I have tried treating with NUstock, oil, and most recently a spray - but treatment has been put on hold for the summer because they spend so much time in their pool and I can't keep anything on them. I've read that it's really common, so hopefully that's not a deal breaker...
I'm hoping to find someone who loves chickens not just for their eggs, but also for their personalities since these are all somewhat older. We still get way too many eggs for our household! Maybe you could add to the flock later if you have room. I was planning on keeping them all into old age and having my own chicken retirement community!
I will not be moving until October. I don't know if it's better to move them now while their still laying or wait until it's a bit cooler so they're less stressed in the heat. I'll let fate decide.
Thank you.
