I have a home made incubator made from a fridge. My first batch of eggs to go thru it were 22 silver sebright eggs. I unplugged the turner on day 18 and on day 19 7 of the 22 started to pip. I have a Styrofoam little giant that I use for a hatcher. I pulled the 7 eggs out and put them in the hatcher. 5 of them hatched out but thees seemed to not fully devoloped They had berry swollen bellies and what looked to be intestines hanging out. Where could my problem be and how can I fix it. Could it be humidity. My temp was set dead on 100 in the Bator and the hatcher. All 5 chicks died and 2 died before coming out of the shell. Please help!!!

Sorry, I'm not sure what the reason could be. I prefer a broody hen, so I don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone else will know. Oh, and

Hey Martin,

I don’t know if it is correct but here are my thoughts: How many thermometers are you using to measure temperature? Temp can be different in different parts of the incubator, i.e. just because it is 100 degrees in on side, it may be colder in the other. Maybe more thermometers may help. Why did you decide to hatch the eggs in the little giant versus leaving them in your homemade incubator? How long did it take you to move them? Could they have gotten cold? When you say intestines hanging out, do you mean their vent part that has all the birthing “stuff” attached to is it still big and swollen? That should go away after a few hours with preemies but not all preemies make it

Newborn chicks always have a big round belly on them. Takes a little while for them to turn into a cute fluffy chick

I am sorry about your bad experiences, that is all I can think of. Hope all will be well with the other eggs.

I have 4 thermometers in my incubator. And it only took me about 30 seconds to move all the eggs from the incubator to the hatcher so they didn't get. Im wandering if my humidity just wasn't right and cause those eggs to pip early.
