I have 3 7 week old silkie/barnyard mixes. Please help me identify whether they are pullets or cockerels! Also, we know they are part silkie, but if you have any ideas on what other breed they could be, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

Smokey is a cockerel
Eggplant I am on the fence with, but leaning cockerel.
Pepper is a pullet.
Hard to say what the other breeds are, the silkie part is evident.
Where did you get them?
Do you know if the silkie parent was the father or mother? 😊

Thank you! I unfortunately don’t know anything more about their breed/genetics. I got them from someone whose kids hatched them as a project. I can say that Pepper is the most skittish and Eggplant is the most docile. They are a very tight knit group and don’t like to hang out with our purebred silkies.

Thanks for your responses! Unfortunately we can’t keep two roosters. We may have to rehome all three, since they don’t like our Silkies (no fighting, they just avoid each other).

Agreed with the assessments above, but don't worry too much about them keeping to themselves now. I'm guessing your silkies are adults and since the new chicks are youngsters- it's probably just self preservation kicking in. Once they're all about the same size I'll bet they start interacting more.

Update: All three turned out to be roosters, and went to good homes. They more or less got on fine with the silkies, except whenever they tried to be dominant, the silkies would attack. And the roosters were at least twice the size!
