We noticed yesterday, late Sunday afternoon that she was acting strange, just kind of standing and lying around. They were all free ranging as they do everyday. She just started laying eggs about 3 wks ago. She’s been laying daily except hasn’t laid in two days now. We did have 5 roosters with 5 hens, but we got rid of 3 roosters because we knew it was too many for our flock. She seemed to be their favorite hen. Also we did purchase 5 pullets about a week and a half ago who are in a crate in the chicken run. They all seem fine. We are working on integrating them. On assessment, Her crop was full and soft like a water balloon. We are new to having chickens, this is our first flock and this was all happening at sun down right before I was leaving for work. She was willing to drink water well with encouragement. We decided to put her into a separate crate in the run until we figured out what was going on. We originally put food in water in with her until I could do further research. I think it may be sour crop? I had my husband give her some neutradrench, we gave her 0.2ml directly and then I had him take her food away and put some ACV in her water and made sure to leave some grit in the pen as well. We made a nesting box in her pen with a 5gallon bucket on its side and put some herbs in there. He checked on her later and she is laying in the bucket. Not super lethargic, but just kind of sitting there and much less active than she usually is. She doesn’t seem to be egg bound because she stands normally. I’m not sure if she has pooped yet. We will know more in the morning when we check on her. I want to be prepared and move quickly so we can save her. Husband said she did not have a foul smell from her beak. My husband did groom our dog the other day and left the dog hair in the yard. I hope they didn’t peck at that. I realized that could be a problem and had him move it. Please help with an advice you may have. Thank you so much!
