I have a 7 month 3 week old Black Australop that has been acting weird for 2 days now. Sits in one of the nestboxes for hours at a time. With 3-5 eggs under her. She acts real funny if I get close, givning me the look and if i try to get eggfs out from under her she tries to peck at me. The first day it happened she was in nestbox, then I checked an hour later and stil there, did not think that much about it other than it was in the afternoon , much later than they usually lay. I checked 3 1/2 hours later and she was still here. Found 4 eggs under her. Kicked her out and took eggs. Next day same thing with 5 eggs under her. Kicked her out again....so what do yopu do with broodies that have no fertilized eggs? Isn't this a little early for this behavior?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

She does sound broody. You have a few options--get some fertile eggs and slide them under her at night, let her sit on the duds for a couple of weeks and then slide some day-old chicks under her at night, do a search on breaking a broody. IMO I think it's kinder to break them if you're not going give her good eggs or chicks. They don't take good care of themselves when they are broody and some will sit for months waiting for chicks to hatch. Oh, if you go with the day old chicks be prepared to brood them yourself if it doesn't work out. Many people have done it with great results, but it's not fool proof.
