Hi all,

First time duck momma here. We have two Pekin ducks - one male and one female. When they were 3-4 weeks old we took them to the vet bc they had respiratory issues (female more so), and they were treated with antibiotics.

Fast forward 8 months later, and our female started making a high pitched sound about 4 days ago (almost like a squeaky toy). She’s also wheezing (see video link Wheezing video ). She’s otherwise normal - eating (albeit they are both eating less this time of year, but they still forage), energy seems to be the same, and she’s still laying eggs (also slowed down the last couple of weeks). Her nostrils also seem clear and no mucus around them either.

We’ve been putting vet rx on both of them the last 2 days - top of head, chest and under their wings, and putting it in their water along with apple cider vinegar. Wondering if we should pay the vet a visit at this point, or give the vet rx a chance? She hasn’t gotten worse, maybe a bit better the last two days? Looking for any advice, thanks so much!

Thanks so much!

Are they able the wash their beaks/submerge their heads?
What's their diet? anything dusty? Vetrx is just vicks, a placebo
Yep they have a water pipe and a deep bowl filled with water. Their enclosure has straw on the ground bc of the cold, and in their duck house is pine chips. Diet is normal duck pellets supplemented with niacin and cracked corn right now. We give them veggies and fruits multiple times a week as well.
