Hello all - I’m new to the community. We recently got 8 chicks from a local feed store, 2 each of 4 different breeds and they were all sold to us as pullets. We know there is about 90% accuracy with sexing baby chicks. I am really wondering if our favorite Easter Egger is a pullet or a cockerel. The comb is looking pretty red to me and there is also a bit of patchy rust coming through in her/his coloring. These pictures are current -

I’m no expert but we do notice that cockerels develop redder combs faster. However in my experience with 4 chicken breeds the pullets develop tails faster and the bird in your pic has a nice long tail. It is best to make comparisons within the same breed. For example we just got a few speckled Sussex straight run and from day 3-4 it is possible to tell male from female based on how quickly the wing and tail feathers protrude. But I would be extremely cautious about comparing say a 4day old Sussex with a 4day old Easter egger because they mature at different rates. So making comparisons among different breeds gets A LOT more complicated. Do you have other birds of that breed (hatched on the same day) that you can post pictures of?
