I'll try to upload a better picture, it takes forever on my computer for some reason.

She (I hope) hatched out of a dark Marans egg, supposed to be black copper, but his color is strange- he is striped with black and copper all over. I have one other chick that hatched, she is all black with just a little copper around her neck, and her comb is slightly smaller and her wattles are slightly less developed. Also, she is feathering in better than him, but I feel like he's got way more feathers than my older Marans had at the same age. From the beginning I had it in my mind that he was the boy and the other was the girl, but now I'm wondering??

ok yes...very strange.......i hatched out this thing myself and it came out of a nice dark marans egg......maybe it got confused as to whether it wanted to be a cuckoo or black copper.......so it became a copper cuckoo??? idk....hopefully he/she makes up its mind soon.....(and that its decision is copper!).

Lil bugger looks to be going cuckoo. Gold cuckoo. And if you can't use a him or her gold cuckoo, I'm right down here in TN.......

Very gorgeous, but doesn't seem to have much feathering for an 8 week old.

My cuckoo marans are now 9 weeks and have waaay more feathers, even the cockerel that started crowing last week.

It is Black Coper Marans girl.We stil do not have standart for Marans and many times black-copers come in this patern with to much red

all I took from those responses was GIRL

Just kidding- thanks for responding... so you think it is just a non "standard" black copper color? I looked up golden cuckoos and they seem to be lighter- these are really dark coppery lines. "She" is getting copper feathering on the back of her neck and her head is solid black.
