8 week old silkies gender

We’re pretty confident they’re both pullets, we found a tiny egg yesterday and it’s definitely come from one of them, just not sure which one yet.

Congrats! You can usually tell by looking at the vents to see which one laid the egg. If you can get past all the silkie fluff.

Without being to graphic, if they have been pushing eggs out, you can tell, compared to one that has not.

I’m surprised silkie could lay that early! Mine is 18 weeks, too. Should I eggpect eggs soon?

In my own experience my Silkies don’t start laying until around seven months of age. Hatchery quality birds though tend to lay earlier around five months of age. I have a five-month-old right now that is squatting.

I was too, this is the first time I have had silkies and everything I read online says they don’t usually start laying until 20+ weeks, so it was a big surprise to find an egg the other day.

So I’ve just had a look at them both. I’m not 100% sure what I’m looking for and it wasn’t the easiest to get a good look cause of their fluff. But Rose, the gold one has a slightly puffier and wider looking vent than chickpea. So I’m thinking it was rose who laid the egg? There hasn’t been another egg yet though.
