these were taken 2 weeks ago, "she" has not changed much other than a few more tail feathers now at 10 weeks old. This is my first go with chickens so if anyone is familiar with SS I would love the input. Thanks!

Here's how you can tell....

Rooster Hen
thick legs feels thin in comparision

huge wattles and comb small wattles and comb

grows drooping feathers by tail smooth transition from back to tail

tail that goes out and curves down goes upward and doesn't curve

packed spiny neck feathers soft wide feathers lightly packed

Females have long tails and males have short tails in this breed.

I do hope your SS sprouts a tail. I'm going to say cockerel at the moment.:(

She is a he I do believe. 10 weeks is about half way to crowing age, of course it varies, not only between breeds but within. on average pullets start laying around 20-22 weeks and roos start crowing about 16-20 weeks

I'm curious what the results were for this. I have 2 speckled sussex at 8 weeks and I'm not sure if one might be a roo
My speckled pair look like this between 6-8 weeks old now. I posted recently and a pretty dependable member told me they are pullets so that made me happy! I’m thinking the tail is telling for gender identification for this breed. Shorter or no tail feathers yet by now may be a boy
