I was confident as a chick that my Buff laced was a Cockerel and my White Crested Black a Pullet based on what I read about sexing based on poof shape as young chicks but now I'm not as sure about the Buff. They both have a missing patch that is growing back in on their top but otherwise are both very round and full. Whatcha guys think?

The buff looks like a pullet. The white crested I think is a pullet too, but give it another 2 weeks.

The laced varieties and the white crested varieties have a different type of crest. The laced varieties won't be as neat and round.

That's so exciting to hear! I wanted the buff most out of our hatchery surprise bix and had resigned myself to another rooster in our flock. So there's a new hope!

This one started getting more obvious waddles and slightly in the comb too the last few days. It's poof is very rounded though here's some shots of them today

The white crested has no beard, so it will have wattles. The buff laced is bearded, so it won't get wattles. The crest on the white crested is looking a bit male with that part in the center. I may be changing my guess on that one.

Oh ok I see. The part I think is mainly because theyre missing feathers on top. Both of them, I'm not sure what happened, I'm watching closely for a feather pecker.

If they are kept with other breeds they may get their crests pecked. Polish can be mixed with other breeds but sometimes it doesn't work out. Most times polish are best kept with other polish.

I'm watching closely and haven't seen any problems and my Houdans are fine so I'm not sure if that's it but keeping a close eye.
