9 chickens killed. One predator DEAD !

I'm very sorry for your loss. I am dealing with a racoon problem myself, so far the score is tied 2-2 (2 silkies killed to 2 racoons removed). I have at least three more that have to go. I hope the one you got is the only one bothering your flock.

I feel your pain!!! I lost 10 two weeks ago, 6 broilers, 2 leghorn Roosters and 2 leghorn hens, that just started giving eggs!!! Thought it was to a coyote, turns out it may have been a fox. My trail cam got many pictures of a fox circling the chicken run on Wednesday morning, he was there for an hour just looking for a way in! He did end getting my 1 Brahma, I think she paincked and few out. What really sucked is I just got her Sunday at the county fair! Eleven birds in 2 weeks, the gloves are off now, it's war!! I have two havahart traps set baited with Mc D. French fries, and two guns next to the door just waiting to catch him in the act. BTW If I get him in the havahart I will drive him a long ways off and release the fox, I'll shoot him but not execute him. I also am going high tech, tommorrow I am installing three IP security cameras, two with IR capability (night vision). The monitoring software will email a picture to my phone the instant anything moves through a preselected field of view.

It is only a matter of time till my wife has a new Fox stole around her neck!

I feel sorry for everybodys losses I am knocking on wood Havent lost any...yet Have a bad problem with possums this year Killed 2 in my yard in the afternoon Both were hiding under some lumber But when they were uncovered my Dobes got them They are night dogs so nothing bothers anything after dark As I said I am knocking on wood

Oh I really feel for your loss! It break my heart to lose these birds! The PTB decided to clear the underbrush along the Rio Grande river here in Albuquerque, and now all of us along the river (we're 1/2 mile away at least) have had raccoon problems for the first time ever.

Had 2 hens killed (sitting on eggs), a large number of eggs crushed, cat food and container raided numerous time (cats aren't happy with no dinner) plus our neighbors had a wonderful momma and eggs and rooster killed by a raccoon. Then they had 9 1/2 grown free range chicks get it in one night by a pair of coyotes.

So far I've trapped 3 raccoons on my acre. We let them go many miles south of us, beyond the cleared river area.

By the way, I read that they love marshmellows. That's what I've used in the traps.

Wow ! Awesome photo. Relocating would do me no good as the farm next door to me caters to coons and they even built a barn that they have let the coons completely inhabit !!!! The darn things are everywhere.

I'll totally leave them alone until they attack my chickens and then I'll have to dispatch them when I can. I hope that in turn they somehow "learn" that my chickens aren't food for them and in fact can be deadly for them to try to get at !

Otherwise I would have preferred to do what you did and relocate them. Seems a shame to just kill them but such is life.
