This morning I went out to feed and check on my animals and 9 of my chickens where dead. Three were alive. They usually get locked up at night, but the coop was mistakenly left open. I found them sprawled out from one end of the yard to the other. Two of them where in the goat pen next to where there coop is, but was more that a 50 yards away. Crazy wierd. No part was eating except the heads where taken off, laying just a foot away. Three heads I couldn't find. One chicken had no blood, head intact and was just dead. I was horrified, and still mind boggled over it....about a month ago I had three other chickens get attacked different days. They had completely different signs of death, half eatin and feathers off. I set traps and caught two foxes and a skunk. The foxes I discovered where living under my work shop. I have no idea what got my chickens this time, but I know its a different animal. Im thinking bigger to, my chickens where large and healthy. I am just so so sad.

I am SO sorry!! I can't imagine the HORROR you felt! It especially makes me mad whatever killed them DIDN'T even have the decency to actually EAT them! I have read several threads that say when a BUNCH of chickens are dead and laying around...a dog is usually the culprit!

oh gosh, I'm just so very sorry about your chickens. Hopefully some others with more experience with predators can give you some answers as to what type of critter it may be. I think heads missing is usually a sign of racoon.

Hugs and again, Im so sorry for your loss
