Finally, long after her hatch sisters from the Easter hatch have been laying, at 9 months old, Nugget has finally graced us with an olive egg.

So perfectly dull-olive that it's nearly gray.

But I'm not breeding a hen who took 9 months to lay her first egg.

it's beautiful! Are you sure thats her frist egg, maybe she has been hiding them🤣. Like mine. Thats a very large egg for a first timer. Congratulations!

I've been pelvic checking her a couple times a week. It finally started increasing last week and her comb finally turned red.

And here i wait for my bc1 to lay and shes an 4-17 hatch..prolly gonna dispatch her come spring. I dont think it ever will lay somethings wrong with it.

I was starting to wonder if Nugget was a dud. Her Easter-hatch sisters have been laying since September.

Pretty much none of my pullets laid this year. Still waiting on almost 30 or so first eggs

A later-maturing breed?

Not really. The araucans and marans are the 9 month old ones, and I guess they might be slower since there not hatchery birds like most but the others are all ones I feel should have started at the latest by 7 months. Heck, my freaking Ketwas were laying and they're definitely not egglaying birds
