I know this chicken has a decent sized comb, but is it still possible it could be a hen? I can’t find spurs and it’s body type looks like a hen to me, but this is my first year with chickens and I am def no expert lol Also, this was a hatchery special pick...but am I correct on the breed (Black Copper Marans)? Thanks! Chicken in question is front and center at the bottom of picture.

Cockerel, and roosters don’t get spurs until they are older. They get them at 5 months to a year. Usually less than a year but I have had some get them way later.

I am the worst at identifying sex. But I would add that I had a BCM roo and he was flat out gorgeous! He also gave me chicks that have had some interesting shell colors.

We eventually had to put him down because he was too aggressive to deal with. Hope that won't be your experience.
